Choosing A Hotel in Moncton
Quick Summary of Most Popular Areas
Downtown Moncton: if you are here for business, downtown is a good place to stay
Why are you in Moncton?
Moncton has been nicknamed the 'Hub City' as it is a central stop-over area for many traveling between the Maritimes and the rest of Canada. The Trans Canada Highway runs directly through the city. Conveniently there are a handful of hotels located near the highway, outside of the downtown area for those looking to just overnight.
Is there anything to see in Moncton?
Perhaps Moncton is most famous for something called Magnetic Hill, which is about a 20 minute drive northwest of the downtown core. Its claim to fame is an optical illusion based on the topography that makes it seem like you are driving uphill when in fact you are driving downhill. There is also a water park in the area which, based on New Brunswick weather, is probably not a year-round type of attraction. If none of this paragraph makes you excited, you are probably not alone. Moncton truly is a stop-over city if you are in need of a break on a long drive.
Surrounding Area
Luckily if you are just passing through, Moncton isn't too far from some major cities. To the east you are about a 2 hour drive from Charlottetown and 3 hours from Halifax. To the west you are about 2 hours from Fredericton.
