The Good
Guests typically enjoyed their stay at Place Louis Riel and many thought it offered good value.

Location was a big plus for many guests, both business travellers and leisure guests, for the hotel's proximity to downtown Winnipeg - with many shops, restaurants and venues within walking distance.

Many guest reviewers enjoyed the comfortable beds and variety of pillows and bed linens. The rooms were considered spacious and clean by guests. Some thought they were well decorated and were appreciative of the full kitchen which afforded them the opportunity to make their own meals.

Many guests thought the hotel was quiet and of those guests who commented regarding the restaurant's food and breakfast buffet, many thought the food and service was good.

Other items appreciated by hotel guests were: the hotel's security,  the hotel was very pet-friendly and had an area off the 4th floor for walking the dogs in the evening, the on-site parking, the laundry room was well equipped,  the kitchenette was very well designed and the hotel had good water pressure.

The Bad
Those who did not enjoy their stay were in the minority, in the reviews used for this summary, however a few guest concerns did get raised with some frequency.

The most common complaint was from guests who found the staff and service to be lacking. Although many praised the staff for being friendly and helpful, it was hard to ignore those who stated otherwise. Several guests mentioned difficulty with housekeeping staff who were negligent to replace bedding or towels, fully vacuum and clean counters and tubs. They stated how they had asked for towels or blankets for each person as they were under supplied, but the staff did not accommodate. Still others complained about the Front Desk not answering the phone when they were calling to complain about missing amenities or services. Also, some guests noted that the hotel staff were not very friendly or welcoming.

Although some people were thankful for the parking and the in-and-out privileges, a few guests complained regarding the price of parking considering it to be expensive.

Another concern voiced by several guests of this hotel, in the reviews sourced, was regarding the sense of safety of downtown Winnipeg at night. One guest said he was harassed by street people. Others mentioned that the downtown area is sketchy and dangerous especially in the evening. One guest offered the advice of utilizing the hotel's security to escort you around the property.

Although the hotel is renovating, not all main areas or rooms have been renovated. Some guests complained about the condition of these main areas describing stained carpets and gloomy hallways with stale odours.

More than one guest remarked that the TVs were quite small and hard to see from the bed. A few guests found the AC units to be noisy and one mentioned that they were unable to turn it off. A few guests complained that the Internet did not work, although others said the Internet connection was acceptable. A couple of guests did not like the "rain" shower heads as they preferred a more forceful stream of water for showering.

"Although we were annoyed with security telling my groomsmen to "quiet it down" ,it's reassuring to know that there is security at this hotel! My new wife and I enjoyed our brief stay and the groomsmen appreciated the staff's cooperation in helping set up the room for our special night! Because I had booked online, I got a great deal, had I not I surely would of gone elswhere, but they didn't have the kitchen! Breakfast the way you want it when you want it! It worked out great for us!"

"Check-in and check-out took a long, long time! They did not have accurate confirmation records. Good thing I printed out and taken with ALL my confirmation and other on-line records or it would have taken a lot longer at the front desk."

"The front desk did not have accurate confirmation records. We were shuffeled around to different rooms. It took a long time to get settled in with a lot of phone calls received from the hotel. The room amenities were different in the room as what was described in the hotel web site."
