Overview
The Holiday Inn Airport West is a 226-room accommodation located on the Trans Canada Highway. The most talked about aspect of this hotel is how well it caters to families with young children. However, according to many reviewers the restaurant is less than perfect. Average guest ratings were only 6.8 out of 10 points (on a 10 point scale) and just under 4 out of 5 points (on 5 point scales).
The GoodThe most common praise for this hotel was the family-friendly nature of the property. The pool area as well as other entertainment areas throughout the hotel were focused on created a fun and playful atmosphere for families with young children. Apparently the elevators even had fish tanks built into the walls and were filled with exotic fish. However, one TripAdvisor.com reviewer mentioned a concern regarding how much the fish were jostled and disrupted each time the elevator abruptly stopped when it reached the desired floor. Rooms were said to be clean as reported by multiple reviewers across a variety of sources. In addition, staff were friendly and accommodating when needed.
The Bad
Typical complaints on both CanadianHotelGuide.com and TripAdvisor.com were directed towards the restaurant. While there were some positive reviews regarding the on-site restaurant the number of contradictory negative comments suggest there is a problem with consistency of food and service. In fact, one TripAdvisor.com reviewer mentioned they had frequented the restaurant numerous times and claimed both food and service were hit or miss. Finally, some on Expedia.com found the establishment to be a little pricey considering the quality of the room. One reviewer did praise the overall cleanliness of the room, however mentioned the furniture and overall room finish appeared tired and worn.
