The Good
This hotel was enjoyed by the majority of its guests who recently reviewed their stay in online reviews used for this analysis.

There were a great deal of guests who praised the hotel's food, and buffet breakfast in particular, saying that they considered it to be delicious, offering great value and quality. Some guests appreciated the live entertainment and lovely piano music offered at the Palm Lounge.

A few guests thought the hotel's overall cost to be an excellent value, and even a bargain with the included breakfast. A few commented on the good value of the food in the restaurant considering it to be very reasonably priced.

The spa was another highlight for guests who availed themselves of this amenity. They described it with superlatives such as: really phenomenal, fantastic and sensational. Another guest provided a little more detail by saying, "I had a massage that was excellent."

The staff received many compliments as well. Guests said they were friendly, helpful and competent.

The location was another plus with hotel guests who mentioned the convenience of walking to downtown businesses and The Forks and called it a nice walking area.

Many reviewers raved about the beds, saying they were very comfortable and someone exclaimed that the hotel offered "probably the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in". Another said, "we loved the huge shower head and cozy robes".

Many praised the atmosphere and ambiance of the hotel and described it as charming and hospitable. Guests were generally impressed with the architecture, grand staircases and impressive foyer of the hotel.

The Bad
Some areas of concern were mentioned by guests in recent online reviews sourced for this analysis.

A few guests found the room decor to be somewhat tired. This seemed to displease younger people more than the mature couples who appeared to enjoy some aspects of the older style drapes and furniture. One young person complained about the furniture and decor saying it was "closer to your grandma's style". One guest who came for business purposes was disappointed in the lack of an ergonomic chair and electrical outlets, finding it too inconvenient to work in the old fashioned room.

Not all the rooms have been upgraded with flat screen televisions, and it appears that some still have very old TVs. This was an area that displeased some guests although it appears that one can make a request for an updated room with more modern decor (according to the hotel manager's comments to a reviewer).

"Great place to enjoy time away from home"

"Almost everything in the Hotel is perfect except for the pillows, we found them too hard and could not sleep with them. I have found that most hotels we stay at have a variety of soft, medium and hard to choose from where here we had lots of pillows but all were the same."

"Computers were available for use by guests, but you had to stand in a public space to use them. There did not seem to be a separate business suite you could go to to work."

"The Sunday Brunch at Fort Garry was incredible. It was the best buffet that I had ever sampled. Absolutely beautiful and delicious! The Ten Spa, the new Spa that just opened up and is located on the entire 10th floor is a world class facility. If you want to be pampered, this is where you want to stay. I will be back!"

"The Fort Gary Hotel is ideal for a romantic, yet relaxing get away. Luxurious is the most appropriate term for the interior design along with a deliciously splendid breakfast. I would more than recommend this hotel to friends and family. Sincerely, David Ounchith"
