"While the rooms were tidy the hotel has definitely seen better days. The walls are gouged, the carpets are worn, and there was not a working iron in the building."

"Their new restraunt, Grapes, was really bad. Small yuppie portions and a miserable breakfast menue? No Oatmeal, no cereal, no muffins, no bagles, rubber omletts made from reconstituted eggs, horrific hash browns. Tinsy-winsy yuppie portions that wouldn't feed a fly (if a fly would even eat it. My dog wouldn't.) Not only were the ommlets small and bad, but they had only three set types. Previously, one could choose from a menue of really good ingredients. Portobella mushroom ommletts, but no ham and cheese- in a town full of hungry construction crews and miners? Lets get real. Based on this experience I would never eat at any grapes anywhere-- ever. (P;ease do not send me any coupons for Grapes either. This tirade is not an attempt at free food. The experience was so bad that I would just shred them.)
Not the fault of the cook, but apparently due to corporate policies set in Winnipeg, who know nothing of the needs of the hotel's Thompson clientel. This franchise is a bad match. Some of the staff intimated that mine has not been the only complaint.
I was particularly disappointed because my experience with their previous restraunt (before they got the Grapes franchise) was wonderful. It was one of the primary reasons that I returned to that hotel. (After all, a bed is a bed.) Grapes has the same cook and the same staff as the old restraunt at the Burtwood, but new limitations by corporate headquarters that obviously has not an inkling of what the clients need, and has no interest in learning.
That said, the hotel itself, and its staff were wonderful. I missed the First Nation art that was in the halls. It was down due the rennovations associated with adding "Grapes". Being from the south, the price always causes sticker shock, but I know that the North has added expences in transport and heating. Compared with other accomodations in the area, the prices were reasonable and presented a good value.
As always, the staff was wonderful. They really did go the extra mile for us, even when we were irate about the terrible food."

"Due to ongoing construction, the hotel was not particularly clean, which I understand. We were tired on arrival and were glad to have a regular place to stay."

"My only comment is that the internet connections could be better. In order to get good wireless connection I was told to bring my computer down to where the front desk was where there was no place to comfortably sit with my lap top, not to mention the lack of privacy. It would be a good idea for this hotel to install high speed internet in each room for customer use."
