The Good
This friendly and well-maintained property was well pleasing to many guests, lots of whom were returning or planned to return for yet another stay. Value for price, on-site amenities, cleanliness, accommodating staff and location were some of the main draws.

Words such as good value and phrases like good, clean basic rooms with affordable prices surfaced quite often in the reviews read for this report. In addition, a few guests spoke of very comfortable beds.

Many guests described first-rate service in the reviews and said the staff were caring, thoughtful, friendly, efficient, pleasant, very helpful and even exceptional.

The location of this hotel was seen as a plus by many guests who liked to explore the Upper Harbour district on bicycle or walk along the Gorge Waterway, enjoying the beautiful vistas. One guest said it was possible to walk along the water's boardwalk and reach the Inner Harbour and Parliament buildings downtown. Also the Galloping Goose trail that goes across the gorge could be accessed within a half block's distance. The bus stop is directly outside the hotel, making it convenient for those using public transit. One guest remarked that the location was a peaceful and safe one with nearby restaurants.

Some guests felt the indoor pool, fitness centre and restaurant on site provided added value to their stays and a few guests reported good food on site and good jazz entertainment.

Some peripheral comments also included good shower pressure and good Wi-Fi signal.

The Bad
While most guest reviews were favourable, there were a few common themes among the complaints - specifically the limited parking at times when the pub was busy, the lack of elevator and the stale smoke smells of some of the smoking rooms on site.

A couple of guests complained about their rooms smelling of smoke. It appears that one guest ended up in a smoking room that had been occupied as such over the course of years and bore telltale signs of guests who had smoked in the room.

A couple of guests also complained about the hotel having somewhat limited parking spots during times when the bar was busy.

There was the occasional complaint about the lack of an elevator to one of the floors. The manager responding explained how two of the hotel's three floors can be accessed without stairs due to the way the hotel is built and there is only one flight of stairs to the third level, for which the staff is happy to help with the carrying of luggage. It seem that this hotel is built into the hill.
