Clean but dated Victoria hotel near Inner Harbour with several pubs & free basic breakfast

Overview
About the hotel: This budget hotel, located near to the Inner Harbour is home to several themed clubs and bars, including a summer rooftop patio and beach volleyball courts. It offers a basic room in a prime downtown location and is attractive to guests looking to party, and others who want to save on hotel costs and have easy access to Victoria's attractions and ferry.

This 5-storey hotel has 72 smoke-free and pet-free rooms with elevator access. 

All rooms include free Wi-Fi, cable TV, an iron and ironing board, a hair dryer and a clock radio. 

Some rooms include a flat screen TV, a sitting area with desk and table and chairs. Some rooms have been renovated and quieter rooms are away from the volleyball court and bars.

Rooms are furnished with 2 single beds, 1 or 2 queen beds, 1 double bed, or 1 double and 1 single bed.

Parking: There is limited outdoor parking available, a block away from the hotel, for $10 per night.

A free continental breakfast is served daily in the Clubhouse restaurant from 7:30 am to 10 am and includes breads, jams, juice, coffee, tea, milk, muffins, bagels, cream cheese, toaster waffles, fresh fruit, choice of 3 cereals, almond milk and yogurt. 

Common area coffee station: Free water and coffee are also available in the lobby.

Restaurants on site: 
Clubhouse Grill, open daily from 12 pm to 2 am, serves lunch and dinner and transforms to a club at night. 
Sticky Wicket Pub serves lunch and dinner, and is open daily from 11:30 am to 2 am. 
Rooftop Surfclub Patio (open in the summer months only) offers beach volleyball, lunch and dinner. 

Bars on site:  
Games Room is a sports pub with games. 
Distrikt is a nightclub with live entertainment and DJs. 
Big Bad John's is a hillbilly bar. 

Hotel amenities include a 24-hour front desk, an elevator, free bicycle lock up, safety deposit boxes and computer for guest use in lobby. 

The Liquor Store is next door and provides cold beer and wine and free ice to guests of the hotel.

What's nearby? The Inner Harbour, BC Whale Tours, the Maritime Museum of BC and the downtown area are all less than a 7-minute walk away.  Victoria Bug Zoo is a 1-minute walk.  Butchart Gardens is a 30-minute drive. 

Getting around: The Clipper Ferry Ramp to Seattle/Port Angeles is a 12-minute walk.  Victoria International Airport (YYJ) is a 30- to 40-minute drive. (All travel times: Google Maps)

Confirmed by hotel on October 7, 2015: older rooms still have CRT TVs which are being replaced, the rooms have basic cable with no pay-per-view movies available, local calls are charged at 53 cents each, the more basic rooms have no desk or table and chairs

The Good
Guest who liked this hotel found it well located in the downtown and reasonably priced with good food on site.

Guests often said they had a comfortable sleep in a clean room, and some guests found their beds comfortable.

Many guests appreciated the value provided by this hotel. Room rates were low for downtown, there was free Wi-Fi and free breakfast included in the room price, and there was parking available nearby for a reasonable rate for downtown ($10 per night).

Staff were usually pleasant and helpful, although there were some complaints about them being disinterested and unsympathetic. 

Several guests enjoyed the restaurants and pubs on site and the volleyball court. They found the food and service to be pleasing.

The Bad
Complaints from guests about this hotel mostly centred on things like noise, cleanliness of common areas and size of the rooms.

Recent room complaints were: dated rooms in need of upgrades, small room/bathroom, no AC, mouldy grouting in bathroom, dusty fans, in-room furniture broken, carpet was old and smelly, toilet leaked where attached to the floor, windows could not open except for a few inches giving no air flow, old and flat pillows and no coffeemaker in the room.

Noise transferred from: the street, guests in neighbouring rooms, hallways or outdoors and music from the club till 2 am.

Other comments were:  no ice machine on floors but available off site a the liquor store next door.
