OverviewThe Red Lion Inn and Suites is located on the west side of Douglas Street and south of Boleskine Road in Victoria, British Columbia.
Hotel facilities at the pet-friendly property ($15 per stay) include free parking, an elevator, a laundry room, and a business centre.
Recreational or leisure facilities include a restaurant/lounge, a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, and use of a nearby fitness club (across the street).
The hotel's site listed a "complimentary airport shuttle" under "amenities" at time of writing. However our staff asked a Front Desk Agent about that service and we were told that the hotel did not have a shuttle and the cost paid to another company would be about $20 per direction per person.
The three-story hotel has 96 guest rooms and standard rooms come with at least two double beds. There are some standard rooms at the hotel that have two queens, however that bedding configuration is subject to availability.
Room amenities include air conditioning, free local calls, free wireless Internet, microwaves, refrigerators, desks, irons, ironing boards, hair dryers, and coffee makers.
The hotel is very near to both the Mayfair Shopping Centre (850m) and Glasgow Field (1.7km). Additionally the hotel is conveniently located on the Trans Canada Highway and connecting to up-Island destinations like Duncan and Nanaimo is quite easy.
Check in time at this hotel is at 3pm while check out time is at 11am.
Verified with a Front Desk Agent: all standard rooms have two doubles or two queens, all rooms include free wireless Internet, all rooms have microwaves and fridges, and there is no free shuttle (Call date: March 30th, 2012).
The GoodSeveral guests who stayed at this hotel liked the property. Guests frequently made positive remarks in their reviews about the hotel's prices, the staff, and the location.
Numerous guests who stayed at this hotel felt as though the room rates offered good value. One guest, for example, said that the price he paid was “very good” and another guest said that the hotel rooms were “priced reasonably compared to a lot of others in the city.”
Guests that commented on the hotel staff generally made positive remarks. The employees were commonly described as “friendly,” “helpful” and/or “pleasant.”
The location of the hotel also received a great deal of praise. Guests felt that the property was “centrally located” and many patrons liked being near restaurants, shopping, and the University of Victoria.
Typically guests thought that the hotel was clean, occasionally guests mentioned that the hotel served good food, and guests that thought that the hotel was quiet outnumbered those that had noise concerns.
The Bad
Some guests did not entirely enjoy their stay at this property.
For example, occasionally guests complained that the hotel did not have a pool that they could use as the one that was offered was an outdoor facility and subject to seasonality.
Guests typically thought that the hotel was clean but there were many guests that specifically mentioned dirty carpets. One guest, for example, called the carpet “filthy” while another guest noticed that his/her carpets were “disgustingly stained.”
Many guests felt as though the hotel was aging and when it came to the guest rooms, some guests felt as though they were on the smaller side.
Lastly, the location of the hotel received some mixed reviews. The guests that were not happy with the area felt as though the hotel was situated just a little too far from downtown while some patrons felt that the area had a bad social vibe.
Expedia.ca guest ratings averaged to 3.8 points out of 5 and 79% of guests recommended the hotel. Booking.com guest ratings averaged to 7.5 points out of 10 and the site had 21 reviews. Hotels.com guest ratings averaged to 3.7 points out of 5 and the site had 64 reviews.

"Great Value, Great Customer Service, but a bit outdated."
"The value for the dollar was great, I was able to get a great rate during the long weekend in the summer, so I was more than pleased! The location was nice, it backs right onto the Galloping Goose Trail. Unfortunately for us, the lounge's licence had been suspended, and we were on vacation, so we ended up spending most of the night at another location. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and knowledgeable of the area too, which is great."

"The manager was very accommodating and the carpeting was so clean that my feet never got dirty! They have a great housekeeping staff too.
The Chinese restaurant that's attached to the hotel is wonderful too."

"On our 11-day trip to several northwest sites/cities, our stay at the Red Lion Inn & Suites Victoria was our favorite, and also our best hotel value(*). Everything about our stay was superb, worth every penny of our modest expense. We definitely plan to book Red Lion on future vacations.

"My reservation (which was made 2 weeks in advance) was for a smoking room and when I arrived they did not have me in a smoking room and they did not have any smoking rooms available. They did not try to accomodate me in any way. The only restaurant on the premises is a ty food restaurant."
