About the hotel: Offering a free downtown shuttle in a vintage Volkswagen bus, this fun and funky motel with retro decor, indoor-outdoor pool and waterslide is popular with families and guests looking for an entertaining hotel experience that is young at heart.

The motel offers 61 smoke-free rooms in 2 sections, of either 2 or 3 floors, with exterior corridors and no elevator.

All rooms include free Wi-Fi, free local calls, a 40" LED TV with a media hub, a mini-fridge, a desk, a hair dryer, windows that open and electric fans. 

Some rooms include a sofabed, a separate bedroom, 2 TVs, an upholstered chair, a living room, a kitchenette with 2-burner stove top, a full kitchen and air conditioning. 

Rooms are furnished with 1 or 2 queen beds or 1 king bed. 

Apartments are in the basement level with windows and have a sofabed, 1 queen bed in a separate bedroom, a living room, a desk and a full kitchen. 

Two-bedroom cottages offer 1 queen bed per bedroom, a living room, a TV, a full kitchen, an eating area, a claw-foot bathtub and a porch.

Airstream accommodation offers a couch that converts to a double bed, 1 queen bed, 2 TVs, a mini-fridge and a deck.

Free parking is available on site.

Guests should note: There is a communal iron and ironing board available on request. There are no coffeemakers in the rooms, but there is a free 24-hour coffee station available for guests in the lobby.

A free downtown shuttle is offered to guests.

Pets are welcome (2 dogs/cats) for $20 per room, per night.

Butchart Gardens is a 24-minute drive away.

The Good
This hotel was well liked for its retro-theme, excellent on-site restaurant and fun atmosphere.

Rooms were clean with a cool retro theme and comfortable beds.

Guests liked the location. It was across from a nice shopping centre, walking distance to Chinatown, reasonably close to downtown and near the bus stop.

Staff were exceptional—very welcoming and attentive.

The restaurant was well liked and many described it as excellent.

Guests enjoyed the pool and waterslide.

Guests often said the hotel offered good value.

Guests also liked: friendly free shuttle service, great free coffee, drive-up access to the room, the airstream accommodation with its own deck and extras like ping pong, skate boards, bikes and record player.

The Bad
There was some negative feedback online.

Recent room complaints were: thin blankets, pillows too high, a little stuffy, bathroom needs updating, room lighting too dim for reading, no coffeemaker in the room, and no air conditioning (in some rooms).

Noise disturbance was mentioned from: Douglas Street, neighbouring room and in-room heater.

Other comments found were: no elevator, no lockers at pool and hot tub, pool and ladder rungs needed better cleaning, no airport transfer available, and a little far from downtown.
