The Red Lion Inn and Suites is located on a retail section of Douglas Street (aka the Trans-Canada Highway), a 10-minute drive from downtown Victoria. Guests can access the bus in a 3-minute walk, and the hotel is situated between two large malls, the Mayfair Shopping Centre, and the Uptown mall, with cafes and restaurants both within the malls and along the street.

The three-storey hotel has 96 smoke-free and pet-free guest rooms. Common room amenities include free Wi-Fi, free local calls, a 27" TV with cable, a coffeemaker, a mini-fridge, a microwave, a desk with chair, an iron and ironing board, a make-up mirror, a hair dryer and air conditioning. Rooms are furnished with 2 double beds, 1 or 2 queen beds or 1 king bed. Room extras include a twin-size sofabed, queen-size sofabed, a kitchenette (stove top, mini-fridge, microwave, sink with counter), a separate bedroom, a dining table with chairs, a buffet table,  a 35" plasma TV, a second TV for the bedroom, and a single-person jetted tub.

Free outdoor parking is available on site. 

The Jade Fountain Restaurant, which serves Dim Sim, Cantonese and Szechuan dishes, offers lunch and dinner daily at the hotel. The V Lounge  serves lunch and dinner in a sports lounge and nightclub atmosphere.

Hotel facilities include an outdoor pool with sun deck, complimentary passes to Fitness World across the street, a business centre, a 24-hour guest laundry, two elevators and meeting and banquet rooms. There is also a cold beer and wine store located on site.

Guests wanting to hike or bike will enjoy the Galloping Goose trail that is directly behind the hotel. Topaz Park (world-class sports events) is a 16-minute walk or 6-minute drive away. Downtown attractions such as the Inner Harbour and BC Whale Tours are about an 11-minute drive from the hotel. Guests can access the famous Butchart Gardens in 23 minutes by car. And Victoria International Airport (YYJ) is a 21-minute drive (without traffic) from the hotel. (All travel time estimates: Google Maps)

The Good
Several guests had comfortable stays at this hotel. Guests frequently made positive remarks in their reviews about the hotel's prices, the staff, and the location. 

Numerous guests thought the hotel offered good value. Guests frequently mentioned the kitchenettes as helping them to save on dining out costs, and the free parking as adding value.

Guests that commented on the hotel staff generally made positive remarks. The employees were commonly described as friendly, helpful and pleasant.

Many guests found the hotel well located for their purposes. They appreciated its proximity to the hospital, to shopping malls and public transit. The hotel was also just a short drive to downtown Victoria's attractions.

Typically guests thought that the rooms were clean, with comfortable beds and the Wi-Fi was frequently described as excellent with guests reporting dedicated modems in their rooms and the ability to stream Netflix.

The Bad
Some guests did not entirely enjoy their stay at this property.

Some guests complained of dated rooms and very basic amenities. A few guests found small TVs with poor cable reception, hard beds, old and flat pillows, ill-fitting sheets, unpleasant odours, old "beat-up" doors and carpets, and dated kitchen appliances.

Some found room cleanliness issues. Grubby and stained carpets, dirty floors, old food and dirt between fridge and sink area, dusty furniture, poorly-cleaned tubs and mouldy shower curtains were some recent complaints.

Some found the common areas needing attention. One guest described these as unkempt and dirty and another recent guest said the facility needed to be completely remodeled.

Some guests complained of noise disturbances. The 'loud and raucous patrons' of the on-site bar were mentioned as troublesome to guests wanting to sleep before 2 am, when the noise usually died down. Others mentioned partiers within the hotel who were loud. There was the occasional complaint about noisy AC units, and the sound of guests walking or running in the rooms above, or talking in the rooms next door.

Some guests complained of unsavoury guests. Complaints in this regard included: a man swimming in his underwear in the outdoor pool, the smell of drugs at the back of the hotel, the strip club on site, long-term guests who were deemed to be inconsiderate of others.

Several guests found parking scarce during their stay with one guest describing the parking lot as "dark alley style parking".
