Editor's Analysis
Updated Nov 6, 2014
Slightly removed from the downtown Victoria area (about a 12 minute drive), this hotel is popular with families, because of the heated outdoor pool on site, and because it is located next door to a park, which many guests found family-friendly. Other on-site amenities include a gym and an indoor hot tub.

There are a variety of rooms at this non-smoking hotel, including Standard rooms that have a fridge and a microwave, or more spacious Suites with full kitchens and separate bedroom(s). They also offer handicap suites with specially equipped bathrooms. Included with all rooms is WI FI, voicemail, a 27-inch TV, an iron and an ironing board, a hair dryer and a coffeemaker. There is free on-site parking, and pets are allowed for $15/night.

Although there are restaurants near the hotel, guests do have the choice to stay on site for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Lakes Grillhouse & Bar, open daily from 6:30am-11:00pm.

This hotel is located close to the Saanich Recreation Centre (about a 4 minute walk), which houses the Commonwealth Pool. Elk Lake is close by as well, about a 10 minute drive. Guests will need a vehicle to access a number of Victoria's attractions, including the Inner Harbour, BC Whale Tours and the BC Maritime Museum, all less than a 15 minute drive away. Butchart Gardens is about a 12 minute drive away. Guests travelling by air should budget about 21 minutes to travel the 17.3km between the hotel and the Victoria International Airport (YYJ) (distances and travel time estimates: Google Maps).

Check-in is at 3:00pm, while check-out is at 11:00am.

Confirmed with a front desk agent: WI FI, parking and restaurant hours (call date: June 25, 2012).
The Good
For guests that had a positive experience at this hotel, much of it was attributed to top-notch service from staff and a great attention to detail when it came to thorough cleaning.

Guests said that the property was "well-maintained", and that the rooms were very clean. Several guests used the word "spotless" referring to specific items and areas in the rooms, like the bathrooms and the refrigerators as well as the common areas like the lobby.

Guests commented on positive interactions with staff. One guest said staff were always smiling and words like "helpful" and "friendly" were used frequently.

Several guests felt that the hotel was well located on a number of different counts. A few guests felt that it was conveniently located in relation to the highway. A few other guests liked that the hotel was a relatively short distance from downtown, and liked the neighbourhood in which the hotel was situated.

There were a few additional comments focusing on the quality of the food in the restaurant and regarding good value received for the price paid.
The Bad
Many of the comments used for this analysis were positive, but there were a few common complaints found, mostly due to noise issues and some issues in the rooms.

A number of guests indicated that there was quite a bit of street noise, particuarly if windows were left open. The noise seemed to be a problem mostly for guests staying on the side of the hotel facing the highway. Some guests felt that the walls were thin, and were disturbed from noise from guests in neighbouring rooms, and in the hallways.

In the rooms, a few guests felt that the linens were poor quality and that the beds were uncomfortable. One guest described their bed as "saggy".

There were a few peripheral comments on things like badly installed carpet and spotty WI FI connections.
