Editor's Analysis
Updated Jun 25, 2012
This resort-style, waterfront hotel is located on Brentwood Bay, and according to the reviews used for this analysis, is very popular with couples celebrating special occasions like anniversaries, honeymoons and birthdays. On-site amenities include a spa, a marina, an eco-adventure centre, a gym, a hot tub and a heated outdoor pool.

Rooms in this boutique hotel, according to guests, are luxurious with regard to decor and amenities. Guests can choose from Standard rooms, or more spacious Suites that have separate bedroom(s), and an outdoor deck with a hot tub. Some of the Suites have full kitchens as well.

All rooms have free WI FI, a fireplace, a balcony or a deck, spa-like bathrooms with an oversized soaker tub or jacuzzi, heated floor tiles, leather recliner chairs, a 40-inch flat screen TV, a hair dryer, bathrobes and an iron and an ironing board. Free parking is available on site and pets are not allowed at this hotel.

Guests can choose to dine on site at the Seagrille Restaurant daily for breakfast (7:00am-10:30am) or for dinner (5:30pm-10:00pm). Guests can enjoy lunch, dinner or drinks at the Brentwood Pub (which has a seaside patio), open Sunday-Thursday from 11:30am-11:00pm and Friday-Saturday from 11:30am-12:00am.

This hotel is isolated, in the sense that there are not a large number of activities available within walking distance, although there are many activities offered on-site through the eco-adventure centre.

Guests will most definitely need a vehicle to access area attractions, and a few guests who found the network of roads around the hotel indicated that a GPS is useful as well. It will take about 25 minutes to drive to Butchart Gardens. A cluster of attractions like the Inner Harbour, BC Whale Tours and the BC Maritime Museum are all just under a 30 minute drive.

Guests travelling by air should budget about 19 minutes to cover the 12.6km between the hotel and Victoria International Airport (YYJ) (distances and driving time estimates: Google Maps).

Check-in is at 3:00pm while check-out is at 11:00am.

Confirmed with a front desk agent: WI FI and parking (call date: June 25, 2012).
The Good
Guests of this hotel had much to say about exceptional service from staff and scenic views afforded by the waterfront location.

There were a number of comments from guests about the high level of service they received from staff. Guests used phrases like "service was amazing with a strong attention to detail" and "friendly and fast" to describe their impressions. Several guests mentioned specific staff members by name.

The rooms, including the decor and the layout, were a huge hit with guests, who commented specifically on "beautiful design" and on the bathrooms, including the heated floor tiles.

A number of guests also commented on the serenity of the surroundings, and on the impressive views from their rooms and from some common areas in the hotel. Guests used words like "awesome" and "superb" to describe them.

Several guests enjoyed dining on site, and attributed their positive experiences to good food, good service, and nice "ambience" provided by the setting and the views.

There were a few peripheral comments on things like the quality of the spa services. A few guests said that they enjoyed the hot tub.
The Bad
While the majority of the comments used for this analysis were positive, guests did make some complaints that centred on the location of the hotel in relation to the downtown area and on noise in the rooms.

While several guests viewed the removed, self-contained location as a positive feature, some guests, that were hoping to visit Victoria's downtown area and many of the main tourist attractions, felt that the 26 minute drive was inconvenient.

Some guests were disturbed by noise in their rooms, mostly from noisy A/C units.

A few guests felt that the parking lot was awkwardly configured and difficult to access. A few also indicated that spaces were "tight".

There were a few additional complaints, centring on things like uncomfortable beds and thin pillows.
