Overview
This hotel is situated in a secluded area of Jasper National Park, halfway between the Columbia Icefields and the Jasper Townsite (a 50-minute drive away). This property is located at the entrance to Sunwapta Falls (7-minute walk from the hotel), a class 6, 18-metre waterfall and major Jasper National Park attraction.

This property is ideal for nature lovers because hiking trails (Osprey Lake and Buck trails) are accessible from this property within a 7-minute walk. Many outdoor excursions and activities may be booked directly through the hotel.

The lodge is 100% smoke-free and all rooms include a TV, free Wi-Fi, a coffeemaker, and a mini-fridge. Microwaves, irons and ironing boards, and hair dryers are available on request. Select rooms include a wood burning fireplace (with complimentary wood). Rooms may be furnished with 1 king bed, 1 queen bed, or 2 double beds. The Sunwapta Suite includes the standard amenities and is configured with 1 queen bed, 2 double beds, and 2 bathrooms.

Free parking is available on site and pets are permitted for an additional fee of $25 per night.

The on-site restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Other on-site amenities include a gift shop, safe deposit boxes, tour assistance and concierge services, a business centre, and a rooftop terrace.

The Athabasca Falls are about a 20-minute drive north of this hotel via the Icefields Parkway. The Columbia Icefields are a 40-minute drive south of this hotel and feature waterfalls, scenic tours, and the largest glaciers south of the Arctic Circle. The Jasper VIA Rail station and Greyhound bus station are both located in the Jasper Townsite, about 50 minutes away by car. (All driving time estimates: Google Maps)

The Bad
As mentioned above, positive reviews for this hotel greatly outnumbered negative reviews. However, there were a couple of common concerns and a few isolated complaints.

"This resort's attraction is its location within Jasper National Park. You should have a choice like "don't care" or "not applicable" for questions about this place's proximity to the airport, shopping and business district. Sunwapta Falls Resort was amazing because it is so remote. The rooms were clean and nicely furnished, while the place retained the feel of a rustic lodge. The food was excellent and reasonably priced and the staff were so friendly and really went out of their way to provide advice and information for a great stay. I would definitely go back when I return to Alberta."

"We were disappointed in the distance from Jasper. We assumed that it was in the town of Jasper but in reality it was 20 outside of town even though it had a Jasper address. It limited the time spent in the town."

Jeanne from Surrey, BC CA rated Sunwapta Falls Rocky Mountain Lodge 7 out of 10 on August 14, 2005 Verified Guest Hotel Review

"The decor was very nice in the room (bedcoverings and curtains...). However someone needs to go in the washroom (toilet and bathtub) and take a look at the paint job around the door. I guess that no one inspected it from this view point but every guest sees a very messy paint job. One other feedback about the layout was the sink was in the main room rather thatn in the washroom or at least in a private alcove area. This leaves no privacy for a person using the sink. Can be a negative feature depending who you are sharing the room with. The restaurant after 6:00 pm was extremely expensive ($26 entrees)for a family. We fortunately were able to eat earlier at the cafe rates. More affordable dining would have been nice even after 6:00. The location was perfect for our biking trip and the proximity to the falls was excellent. So there you go - some good stuff and some suggestions. JM"
