West Edmonton Mall is a nearby attraction as it is about 2.8km from the hotel. Anthony Henday Drive is about 1.3km to the west of the property with connections to the Yellowhead Highway and the Queen Elizabeth II Highway.

Several guests indicated that the hotel was priced competitively. One guest, for example, said that what they received was “good for the price” that they paid and many other guests made similar statements. Some guests mentioned that the hotel had shortcomings and felt they were acceptable based on the inexpensive price that the property offered.
The location of the hotel also received a lot of praise. Guests that liked the location often mentioned the easy access to West Edmonton Mall, a destination that was described as a “quick drive” away. Some guests also indicated that there were lots of choices for restaurants near the hotel.
Many guests also liked what the hotel had to offer for facilities. Typically these guests were parents who appreciated the hotel’s waterslide because it was useful for entertaining their children.
The Bad
There were numerous guests who had concerns about this hotel and the most common complaint pertained to a lack of cleanliness at the property.
Several guests described dirty rooms with “stains on the floor” and one guest, for example, said that he/she “wouldn’t sit on the chairs in the room cause there was sticky gross stuff on them." The hallways were also described as dirty and occasionally guests mentioned that the pool area wasn’t clean.
Some guests also complained about an unwanted smell at the hotel. A couple guests mentioned that the smell was cigarette smoke while many others said that they noticed a strong chlorine smell that came from the hotel’s pool. One of the guests who complained about the chlorine said it was so powerful that “it made your eyes burn.”
Occasionally guests complained about plumbing problems at the hotel. One guest said that the toilet ran too long while multiple others said that the shower had very weak water pressure.
Some guests felt as though the hotel was old while others seemed to hold a similar opinion and they recommended renovations.
Expedia.ca guest ratings averaged to 2.7 points out of 5 and 43% of guests recommended the property. Google Places guest ratings averaged to 2.0 points out of 5 and the site had 15 reviews. Booking.com guest ratings averaged to 6.3 points out of 10 and the site had 62 reviews.

"While the staff did its best to keep the hotel clean and attractive, I was very unimpressed with how old the building looked and how much work was needed to it. The staff clearly was doing its best, but some updates are badly needed to the building and decor! for example, our air conditioner was in horrible shape as was the window. The carpets, furniture and paint / wall paper were very run down looking and in need of a makeover.
Overall, I like the location, price, and restaraunt (Smitty's), as well as the proximity to the west end shopping."

"I complained at the desk that I had not received my requested wake-up call and then realized I was an hour ahead and actually checked out before my wake-up call was due (obviously not their fault). The hotel was very noisy all night with other guests and I had to call the switchboard to complain after 1:00 am and then get up, get dressed and deal with it myself. I stated on the written comment card that I would not stay at this hotel again because of these two issues, but the first one not being their fault and the second not necessarily likely to occur again, I would reconsider. I like staying at Travellodge and usually do as I travel."

Even as a smoker, I found my smoking room very smelly! The window only opens a crack, and the a/c didn't work. Trying to get some airflow was nearly impossible. Also, you could see streaks of nicotine on the walls and ceiling. Maybe try some Febreze on the bedding, curtains, and carpet between guests to freshen the place. Febreze is amazing stuff...it really works."

"The hotel staff itself was fine, our room was tidy but seemed old and worn out, the beds were extremely small, the waterslide was rough and cut our backs, the hot tub was lukewarm and hardly had any water, the pool seemed unclean, there were young kids diving and running around unsupervised despite what the sign read about the pool rules, the attatched Smitty's restaraunt was had horrible service, the food tasted okay, the cashier was extremely slow, the clean up staff were picking up glass and left large pieces on the floor where customers could easily get hurt, our waitress was slow and not very helpful. Our experience at this hotel was not good enough for us to stay there again and to never recommend it to anyone."

"I found the room we stayed in, room (112) was very small!! It seemed really run down. Was not the kind of hotel I was expecting. Me and me fiance did not enjoy our time at your hotel, I would not recomened for anyone to stay there and I would never stay there ever again!! The day staff was attentive but the night staff was not. I waited at the front counter for about five minutes on Feb 5, 2005 around 2:00 before someone came to talk to me. We went to the pool in the morning and the pools we really cold. The main pool was warmer then the HOT tub and the pools water level was very low. Over all the pools sucked!! When we had a shower the day of check out there was no hot water either. I was very unsatisfied with this hotel!"

"I have to admit, we were very upset when we first arrived to our room. Our daughter had to wipe off someone's urine off the toilet. There was no paper band across the toilet to let us know it was cleaned. The rest of the bathroom was spotless. But, that beginning somewhat biased me for the rest of our stay. Also, the phones are old and have the wrong instructions on them. The entrances to the rooms are chipped and battered. I have to say that the desk staff were very polite and gave us quick service."
