OverviewThe Ramada Edmonton South is located 24 kilometres from Edmonton International Airport and close to Southgate Centre and the Children's Educational Wildlife Museum.
This hotel welcomes corporate guests and features a host of business amenities, such as a business centre, meeting rooms, exhibit space and audio-visual equipment. Free wireless Internet is available in each guest room, as well as free local calls.
The Ramada Edmonton South also features an on-site restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Other property amenities include a fitness centre, catering service, free parking, as well as RV and truck parking.
Each non-smoking guest room at the Ramada includes blackout drapes, climate control, a clock radio, a desk, cable TV, a video game console, a coffee maker, a hair dryer, a microwave and a refrigerator. Guests can also request a crib, rollaway bed and extra towels/blankets from the front desk.
The airport shuttle referenced on some websites, including the Ramada Edmonton South's page on the corporate chain website, is actually a paid shuttle operated by a Edmonton Sky Shuttle, a 3rd party service. The hotel quoted the rate for the shuttle at $18 one way per person, with travel time around 45 mins (due to the fact that the shuttle makes pickups at other hotels on the way to the airport). For comparison purposes, the hotel suggested a taxi was quicker (~15 mins travel time), but costs $45 one way.
Update (Sep 18, 2012): At the present time, the pool area is under renovations and not available, contrary to some online references and photos showing a pool and waterslide. We contacted the hotel and the front desk staff confirmed that the pool was unavailable until further notice. The hotel was not able to provide an expected completion date for the pool renovations.
The GoodGuest reviewers were overall pleased with the service that they received from the Ramada Edmonton South. Some reviewers described the hotel staff as pleasant, informative and welcoming.
The price of the hotel also received several positive remarks, with past guests describing the hotel as budget-friendly and reasonably priced. Guest reviewers across multiple sources agreed that the hotel was a good choice for the price and many stated that they would book again.
The updated, renovated rooms triggered an abundance of positive responses from past guests. Some guest reviewers felt that the recent updates added to the coziness and comfort level in each room. Furthermore, a few guests dubbed the new decor appealing and were pleasantly surprised upon entering their room.
The Bad
The air conditioning and heating units triggered a handful of negative responses from past guests. Loud units were a common complaint, as were broken units. Furthermore, noise from the AC/heating unit kept some guests awake during the night.
Guest rooms were furnished with new beds and pillows after the renovation, but some guests felt that the beds were too firm and the pillows too lumpy.
Odours in the hallways and elevators struck a nerve with some guests, as well as poor cleanliness in some of the guest rooms. There were complaints of dirt in the corner of some rooms, candy wrappers on the floor and one guest found make-up stains upon entering his bathroom for the first time.
Thin walls were another common complaint and a few hotel guests were bothered by noisy elevators and ice machines, as well as sounds of people walking and talking in the hallways.
TripAdvisor.com ranked the Ramada Edmonton South #72 out of 84 hotels in Edmonton. Guest review ratings averaged 2.5 out of 5 points.
Hotels.com received 89 reviews and guest reviews averaged 3.9 out of 5 points.
Booking.com guest ratings averaged 7.8 out of 10 points at the time of writing.

"tHE HOTEL WAS UNDER RENOVATION WHEN WE WERE THERE. SO I HAVE TO GIVE THEM A BREAK ON THAT. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO REDUCTION IN PRICE FOR THE OLD SMELLS OF A A lOUNGE FROM THE 1970'S WAS APPARENT WHEN WE WERE STANDING IN THE LOBBY WAITING FOR THE ELEVATOR. i TOLD THE KIDS TO NOT LET ANYTHING TOUCH THE SCUMMY CARPETS IN THE ROOMS. NOW THESE CARPETS ARE REAL BAD THEY GIVE YOU THAT CREEPY FEEL. IN GENERAL THE PLACE NEEDED A GOOD SCRUB DOWN AND THERES NO EXCUSE FOR THAT. mY PROBLEM HERE WAS I STAYED AT THE rADISSON A FEW MONTHS BACK FOR ABOUT THE SAME PRICE MAYBEE 10 BUCKS MORE AND I THOUGHT I HAD BOOKED AT THE RADISSON AGAIN BUT SOMEHOW GOT THE RAMADA CONFUSED AND BOOKED ON LINE WITH THEM. WE CHECKED IN LATE AND IN HINDSIGHT I SHOULD HAVE JUST TAKEN 1 LOOK AT THE ROOM AND GOT MY MONEY BACK AT ANY COST AND TRIED FOR ANOTHER PLACE. AFTER ALL THERE ARE LIMITS ON A DIRTY PLACE. THE ONLY OTHER THING I DID NOT DO WAS COMPLAIN TO ANYBODY ABOUT MY STAY UNTIL NOW. I ALWAYS FEEL THAT YOU SHOULD DO THIS IF YOU CAN SO THAT THEY KNOW HOW YOU FEEL AND HAVE A CHANCE TO ADDRESS THESE CONCERNS. THIS PLACE HAS NO CLASS OR IS PERFECT FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO PARTY HARD "THE NEIGHBORS WERE YELLING ACROSS THE HALL FIRST THING IN THE MORNING WITH THE DOORS OPEN" OR FAMILIES THAT HAVE NO MANNERS."

"I definitely plan to stay at this Ramada Hotel next time we stay in Edmonton. We have young children and the waterpark was really great. The service was friendly, and they were helpful with any questions we had. Our room was plesant and clean, and it was nice to have a balcony to sit and visit on after children went to sleep. The price was average compared to other hotels around the city, and it has a generally central location. We were able to get everywhere we wanted to go without any trouble. I would recomend this hotel to any family travelling to Edmonton!"

"Don't use the vending machines in the hotel. They take your money and don't dispence product and also don't return your money. Pillows are due for replacement so bring your own.
Has a nice balcony and usually a nice view on the upper floors."

"An older hotel that needs to be updated. Felt like we were staying in something from the 70's. Rooms were small with no frills. Fairly clean but really needs to be spruced up. Could of stayed in something more modern just down the street for the same price or less."

"The Hotel itself is in an alright location in Edmonton. The customer service skills at the front desk; including management, are very poor. They are not welcoming at all and smiles are non existent. In the hospitality industry, travellers deserve more.
The cleanliness of the room itself was OK; however, the blankets are thin and seem old. The bead spreads could definitly use some cleaning.
In comparison to the treatment I have received in the past from other hotels, the Ramada Waterpark needs some help."

"I was discouraged that there was only 1 usable electrical outlet outside of the bathroom and it wasn't close to a mirror. We needed a bottle opener and called for someone to bring on and they said we needed to go to the lounge for the bottle opener. Once we were there, we were not waited on immediately. We were named "Customer of the Day", that was nice, but also seemed like everyone else at the hotel was named the same."

"When it came for checkout at 11 am on Sunday there was a huge line and only one customer service rep at the counter to check everyone out. We waited for a good 30-45 minutes before we could check out. Other than that we loved our stay and had a great time.

"Front desk people were rude and not understanding at all! I stayed here for 3 nights and there were yellow stains (which looked like pee) on the bed covers, we're not sure what it was but we kept on putting the covers on the floor and notified the people at the front desk (but they did nothing about it!) In addition we were hoping room service would notice that the covers are on the dirty floor and so they would automatically replace it with clean ones but they never did because we got the same covers placed back on our bed night after night. We were there for a wedding so we were barely at the hotel, and just went back to it late at night to go to bed, but by that time we didnt want to wait around for them to come to our room because we were very tired so we would just put the bed cover in the corner of the room. Also there were grapes and popcorn on the side of one bed that room service kept on missing to pick up, so they clearly do not vacume the floor often! Owner/manager was completely rude, and did absolutely nothing (like take some money off since we were completely not satisfied). This place was not worth what we payed for at all."

"I thought it was overpriced. With no fridge and basic cable TV. There was no standard decaf coffee option or a frontdesk offer to supplement personal toliletry.
An exit door was locked with not notice so one would go through the embarassment of trying to open a locked door.
Not good value for the money"
