This hotel produced many satisfied customers, as evidenced in the reviews posted online and considered for this analysis.
The location of the hotel was one of the the biggest draws. Guests found it handy for accessing the West Edmonton Mall and also liked its proximity to restaurants and shopping. Some mentioned that it was situated close to the highway and had easy access.
The rooms were another positive factor in guests' approval of this hotel. Many commented on the rooms and conveyed that the rooms were well maintained. Guests really liked the convenience of the family suites with 2 fully separated bedrooms and a kitchenette. Others were pleased to have mini-fridges and microwaves in the rooms. Some said their rooms were big, quiet and clean. Other room amenities appreciated were the fireplaces, the jacuzzis and the table and chairs for in-room meals. Many found comfortable beds and were very pleased with them.
The indoor pool was another highlight for guests of this hotel. Families with children especially found it to add a lot to their stay and several found it to be clean and warm. "Good hotel for a family stay" was the theme of many guests who reviewed.
Many reviewing guests found the staff to be very friendly and there were a lot of positive comments saying they were efficient, accommodating, and made guests feel welcome, although they were also the subject of negative comments. (See comments below for more detail on this.)
While many reviews for this hotel spoke of pleasant guest experiences, there were a few common concerns from guests who stayed.
Not many spoke of value directly, but it seems that the hotel was most satisfying to guests who found this an affordable place to take the family when visiting West Edmonton Mall. When the value did not add up for a guest, it seems that a complaint would often surface. These complaining guests also complained of unfriendly and unhelpful staff members. One guest conveyed this well, "When they asked how our stay was as soon as we said not great they were no longer interested in talking to us."
Besides these complaints against the staff, there were others who just said they experienced an abrupt check in or staff that were not that friendly, as well as housekeeping staff that failed to service the room at all, or properly.
Others were not aware that breakfast was not included at this particular Days Inn, when they reserved the room and this brought the price up to an unfavourable level for them. To make matters worse, a few guests actually complained of being charged more than what they had already paid online through a third party booking site.
The most commonly voiced complaint was that the room's temperature was too hot and guests could not get the rooms to cool down. Another very common complaint was that the hot tub was unbearably hot. Several guests complained about the on-site restaurant as well. They said it was dark and dingy and the service was very poor. The food was also below expectations for more than one guest.
There were a few other complaints that showed up more than once. These included: poor shower pressure, noise from other guests a disturbance, the hotel was dated and the pool could do with a makeover.
One guest cited beg bugs in December 2014 and provided pictures, but no one else corroborated this report in other reviews or other online sites since, and up to the time of writing this report-- June 5, 2015.
