Overview
On Canmore's Bow Valley Trail, only 15 minutes driving time from Banff National Park, the Quality Resort Chateau caters to skiers and snowboarders in the winter with its ski shuttle to nearby resorts (operates according to demand) and ski/snowboard storage inside the hotel. Hotel staff can also arrange for lift tickets and gear rentals.

The all-suite hotel's 93 suites all feature kitchenettes, fireplaces and separate sitting areas, in addition to a variety of sleeping configurations. Most suites have two double beds, though there are rooms with queen and king beds available as well as 16 two-storey lofts featuring a king bed. Many rooms also have sofabeds that can sleep two, so, for example, rooms with two double beds and a sofabed can accommodate six people (extra person charges may apply). Pets can stay for an additional $15 per pet, per day.

The hotel's on-site restaurant and bar serves breakfast every day and dinner every night except Monday. Fitness facilities include a small fitness centre, an indoor pool, a sauna and an outdoor hot tub. An on-site spa offers massages as well as body, facial and nail treatments, by appointment.

Sunshine Village ski area is 27 km from the hotel, about a 25-minute drive away. Lake Louise Ski Resort is 80 km, or 1 hour by car, while Ski Norquay is roughly half an hour away. The Canadian Rockies Adventure Centre, where visitors can book whitewater rafting trips, helicopter tours, dog sledding activities and more outdoor adventures, is just over a kilometre down the road. The village of Banff is about 25 minutes away by car. (Distances: Google Maps.)

The Good

Many reviewers also spoke fondly of the mountain views from the hotel's rooms, outdoor hot tub and restaurant. It would seem that many of this hotel's guests were using the hotel as a homebase for outdoor activities, especially in the winter, and felt the amenities served their needs well.

Reviewers often appreciated the space and layout of the suites, especially the lofts, and liked the added flexibility with the kitchenettes and separate sitting areas.

Many guest reviews said the rooms were comfortable and good value for their money.

The Bad
The primary complaint of guests who reviewed this hotel had to do with the hotel's proximity to train tracks, which run through Canmore behind the hotel. Some guests staying at the front of the hotel said the noise wasn't a problem, but those staying at the back of the hotel said it was noticeable, and at times disturbing.

Many reviewers implied the hotel was showing its age in terms of outdated decor and general wear and tear. Some complained about the hotel only having one elevator, and a slow one at that, while many others complained that the temperature in their room was too hot and difficult to control, though staff contacted by phone suggested the fireplace pilot light may be to blame in these cases, and can be turned off.

Some reviewers noted the lack of a free breakfast at this hotel, unlike many other hotels within the Choice Hotels or Quality Inn franchise, though breakfast at the on-site restaurant is included as part of some packages.
