OverviewThe Travelodge Calgary South is located on the east side of Macleod Trail SE and south of 69th Avenue SE in Calgary, Alberta.
Facilities at the pet friendly hotel ($10 per stay) include an outdoor saltwater pool, a fitness centre, free parking, and 62 guest rooms that include both smoking and non-smoking options.
There is no elevator at the two-story hotel nor is there a restaurant however the property does serve a free continental breakfast each morning. Additionally one of the front desk agents our staff spoke with said that there were plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel (i.e. The Keg is less than 100m south).
Guest rooms feature free local calls, free Internet, air conditioning, desks, microwaves, fridges (on a request basis), ironing equipment, and coffee makers. Beds for each room are either two doubles, one queen, or one king.
The hotel is about 5.5km away from the Calgary Stampede grounds and the Chinook Centre (a shopping mall) is just to the north of the hotel, at a distance of about 850m (driving distances - Google Maps).
Check in time at this property is at 3pm while check out time is at 11am.
The GoodGuests that stayed at the Travelodge Calgary South Macleod had mixed reviews of the property. Many guests that enjoyed their stays gave strong reviews to the staff and the hotel's location.
The staff of the hotel were commonly described as "pleasant," "friendly," and/or "helpful." There was a little bit of balance on this issue but overall neither customer service nor staff attitude appeared to be a problem at this property.
Many guests were also happy with the amenities that were included in their rooms. As an example, one guest said that his "room had more amenities than (he) expected such as a small fridge and microwave."
The location of the hotel was also very well-liked and the property was considered convenient for shopping at Chinook Centre. Some guests also said that the hotel was "close to restaurants" and occasionally guests mentioned the close proximity to downtown attractions like the Saddledome and the Stampede Grounds.
The prices of the rooms rates were not reviewed with consistency however there were a lot of guests that claimed they received a good rate or good value.
The Bad
Many guests that stayed at this hotel were not happy with the property. Multiple guests complained about the value that they received for the prices the paid and the hotel appeared to have problems delivering rooms that were consistently considered clean.
In regard to the price or value, there were mixed reviews. As mentioned in the previous section, some guests said that they did in fact receive a good deal however this was not expressed with complete consistency. Multiple guests listed "price" as something they disliked about the hotel and one guest, for example, said that the property was "on the pricey side for the quality."
Several guests complained about dirtiness at the hotel. Some were not too adamant but just mentioned that the rooms weren't the cleanest they'd seen. Others were quite strong in asserting their opinions and felt as though their rooms were well below standard in terms of cleanliness.
Occasionally guests complained about the breakfast room, an area that was often called "small" or even "tiny."
TripAdvisor.com ranked the hotel 77th of 96 hotels in Calgary and the site had 8 reviews.
Expedia.ca guest ratings averaged to 4.0 out of 5 and 91% of guests recommended the hotel.
Hotels.com guest ratings averaged to 3.6 points out of 5 and the site had 39 reviews.
