OverviewIn operation since 1914, The Fairmont Palliser is located in downtown Calgary, and is situated 16.5 km (approximately 25 minutes driving time) from Calgary International Airport (YYC).
The hotel is comprised of 407 guest rooms, and is connected by Calgary’s Skywalk to The Calgary Tower, The Telus Convention Centre, and The Glenbow Museum (approximate walking time 2-4 minutes). Retail shopping is accessible on foot, with the Core Shopping Centre 7 minutes walking distance away. Nearby attractions include the Calgary Zoo and the Pengrowth Saddledome, home to the NHL's Calgary Flames, both 2.6 km away (approximately 6 minutes driving time). When charged to the room, unlimited-access valet parking is available for $37.00/night (Sunday through Thursday), and $30.00/night (Friday and Saturday). If paying for parking separately, non-valet rates are $2.50 per half hour up to 6:00pm (maximum of $20.00), with an additional fee of $5.00 after 6:00pm, and no in and out privileges. Nights and weekends are $6.00. Small pets are permitted, and family-suited amenities such as crib, playpen and nanny accommodations are available upon request. The hotel houses five accessible rooms with Access Level 2 requirements.
Additional hotel amenities include a business centre (high-speed internet access, two private work stations equipped with personal computers and a 12-person boardroom available), the Boulevard Health Club (with saltwater pool, exercise equipment, steam room and 12-person whirlpool), and the RnR Wellness Spa (open 10:00am - 8:00pm Monday through Saturday, and 10:00am - 7:00pm on Sunday). In-room spa services are also available from 9:00am to 9:00pm.
The Fairmont Palliser has two on-site restaurants. The Oak Room Bar for casual dining serves cocktails and tapas, as well as lunch and dinner (open 11:30am – midnight Monday through Saturday, and 2:00pm – midnight Sunday and holidays). The Oak Room Bar features live jazz on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30pm - 8:30pm.
The Rimrock offers a breakfast buffet as well as a breakfast menu (6:30am – 11:30am), lunch menu (11:30am - 1:30pm), and dinner menu (5:30pm – 9:00pm) daily. Children ages 5 and under eat free from the children’s menu, and children ages 6-11 eat for half price from the regular menu. Reservations are recommended, and room service is available 24 hours a day seven days a week.
The Fairmont Palliser presents several different room options; Guestrooms (ranging from 225-325 sq. ft.), Suites (ranging from 400-1225 sq. ft.), and Gold Level accommodations (ranging from 350-777 sq. ft.), all of which include the following amenities: Air-conditioning, alarm clock radio, bathrobe, coffee/tea maker, cable television, iron and ironing board, mini-bar, windows which open, hair dryer, cordless phone, desk/chair, and high speed internet (complimentary for Fairmont President’s Club members). Gold Level rooms include the following additional amenities: Barista-style coffee, complimentary high-speed internet, executive continental breakfast, access to Fairmont Gold iPads, guest shoe shine and evening turndown service.

An abundant amount of reviewers complimented the high level of customer service given at the hotel; staff was reported as being “wonderful”, “friendly”, and “helpful”. If guests had issues or concerns, the staff were reported as being quick to accommodate.
Most guests remarked on the convenient location of the Palliser in relation to its close proximity to shopping, restaurants and bars; many of these locations were reported as being within walking distance.
The architecture and beauty of the hotel and lobby were given frequent recognition, and several guests commented on its “historical beauty” and “elegance”.
The quality of the food in the restaurants and from room service was met with positive response by some guests as well.
The Bad
Some guest reviewers, of those used for this analysis, had negative things to say about the hotel’s room décor, prices, and noise levels.
Of the negative reviews found for this analysis, many complained that their rooms were too small, “run-down”, “old” and “outdated”, and that they were not worth the price, however some guests commented positively on the spaciousness and décor of their rooms.
Several reviewers commented on the high prices for the valet parking. Non-valet parking was touted by a few as being inconvenient and expensive, and the on-site dining options were also recognized as being “pricey” by a some.
There were several noise complaints about the hotel, mostly directed at its close proximity to the train station. Some guests advised against staying at the back of the hotel, which overlooks the railway line. Guests who asked to be switched to a new room because of the noise were accommodated.
