Overview
Located about a 10-minute walk from the Chinook Centre on Macleod Trail SW, this hotel is frequented by the budget-minded traveller who seeks basic accommodation.

All rooms are non-smoking and include free Wi-Fi, free local calls, a TV, data ports, a coffeemaker, a hair dryer and an iron and an ironing board. Some rooms a have a mini-fridge, a kitchenette (a microwave, a mini-fridge, a stove top, a sink) and/or a 32" flat screen TV. Rooms are furnished with 1 double bed or 1 or 2 queen beds.

Free parking is offered on site. Pets are permitted (dogs only) for a cost of $25 per pet, per day.

Guests are offered a complimentary breakfast every morning which includes cereal, orange juice and self-made waffles. 

On-site amenities include a 24-hour front desk, a guest laundry, ice and vending machines.There is no elevator on site.

The downtown area, which is where the Calgary Tower, the Glenbow Museum and the Stampede Corral are located, is about a 13-minute drive away. Guests wanting to visit the Calgary Zoo will need to drive about 12 minutes northeast of the hotel. For guests travelling by air, Calgary International Airport (YYC) is about a 22-minute drive (26.8km) away (distances and driving time estimates: Google Maps).

The Bad
There were a number of items that caused disappointment for guests at this hotel, many of which centred around a lack of detailed cleaning at the hotel and aging decor.

There were many comments from guests who felt that there was a significant lack of detail when it came to cleaning, both in the rooms and in the common areas. Several guests complained of dirty and stained carpets and stained bedspreads and sheets. Some found that the bedspreads, sheets and pillows did not smell as though they were properly cleaned. Although a few guests reported clean bathrooms, others said their carpets had not been vacuumed and found dusty areas.

The decor was aging, according to a number of guests, and needed to be replaced. One guests mentioned holes in the sheets and in the curtains. Additionally a few guests complained of mattresses that were sunken in.

Many were bothered by unpleasant odours in the rooms. Some guests attributed the smell to mould; some complained of cigarette smoke odour, while others thought the odour was due to the lack of general cleanliness in the rooms. One guest described the hotel as dark and dingy.

This hotel was noisy, according to a number of guests. Several guests were bothered by street noise and by noisy, rattling fans in the rooms. Some guests felt that the walls were thin, and were disturbed by noise from neighbouring guests.

There were a few peripheral comments on things like broken door locks and small bathrooms. Some guests reported undesirable people lingering outside the hotel and one guest said the police were called because of a fight that broke out in the hallway.

The staff received mixed reviews, some saying that they were friendly or okay and some raising complaints about their service, attitudes and argumentativeness. Several guests were upset by the large damage deposits authorized on their visa cards and the amount of time it took to have them refunded.
