Overview
Located on Hwy 1 (the Trans-Canada Highway, also known locally as 16th Avenue) in Calgary's Northwest quadrant, this motel is popular with guests who seek basic accommodation at a lower price point. For guests with access to a vehicle, proximity to some of Calgary's major thruways means relatively easy access to various points of interest around the city. On-site amenities include a heated, seasonal outdoor pool.

Guests can choose between smoking and non-smoking rooms, as well as between different bed types. All rooms include Wi-Fi, a mini-fridge, a microwave, a coffeemaker and an iron and an ironing board. Pets are not permitted at this hotel and free parking is available on site.

There is no on-site restaurant, but several guests commented on the proximity of a wide selection of restaurants nearby the hotel. Guests are offered a free continental breakfast daily.

This hotel is popular as well with guests who want to be close to the University of Calgary (7-minute drive) and McMahon Stadium, home of the Calgary Stampeders (a 2-minute drive or a 7-minute walk). The downtown area (which is where some of Calgary's main attractions are located, like the Stampede Corral and the Calgary Tower), is less than a 15-minute drive away. Air travellers should budget about 23 minutes to travel the 17.3 km between the airport and the hotel (distances and driving time estimates: Google Maps).

Confirmed with a front desk agent: parking, breakfast and Wi-Fi (call date: August 8, 2012).

The Bad
While a number of the reviews used for this analysis were positive, there were some common threads through guest complaints, mostly centring on noise issues and temperature control.

A number of guests had problems regulating temperature in the rooms and complained that the A/C units rattled and were very noisy. A couple of guests even had trouble sleeping due to the noise from the A/C unit.

This hotel is located close to the highway, and a few guests were disturbed by traffic noise.

Plumbing was an issue for some guests, who had trouble with water pressure and clogged shower drains.

There was a couple of additional complaints, mostly about tired, worn decor.
