There are not a lot of hotels to choose from for guests needing to access the Victoria General Hospital in Victoria, BC. The hotels that are the closest seem to be dated, poorly rated or expensive. I’ve analyzed what is available and highlighted 4 hotels, on the top of this list, that should provide a comfortable and affordable stay for patients and visitors to the hospital.

Victoria-Esquimalt hotel in scenic location with outdoor pool, air conditioning and kitchens
  • Free amenities: Wi-Fi, breakfast, parking, local calls, newspapers
  • Many guests found the rooms comfortable and well equipped
  • Friendly, helpful staff, according to guests
  • Guests liked the waterfront location and grounds
  • Many appreciated the value and prices of the rooms
  • Breakfast was appreciated for its convenience
  • No elevator to the second floor
  • Some guests complained of dirty and worn carpets
  • Some guests said the hotel was a little dated
The Econo Lodge is my first choice for guests who need to access the hospital as it offers the best deal and is also the closest to the hospital at a 7-minute drive. Guests can also get to the hospital by bus in 10 minutes with only a 1-minute walk from the bus stops, at both ends.

It offers a quiet and comfortable room in a very peaceful setting, overlooking the Gorge Waterway, with added free continental breakfast which begins at 7 am. Parking, local calls and good Wi-Fi is also free of charge to guests.

Basic rooms do not come with a mini-fridge and microwave, but there are rooms that do, and there are also rooms that have kitchenettes for a very reasonable price.

Guests who have mobility problems should choose rooms on the first floor, as there is no elevator to the second floor, and guests with an allergy to dogs should note that this hotel allows dogs in all rooms except the Waterfront Suites.

Well-liked Victoria hotel in Upper Harbour with indoor pool, free Wi-Fi and kitchen suites
  • Free amenities: Wi-Fi, parking, local calls, newspapers
  • Many guests found the rooms to be very clean, updated and comfortable
  • Guests liked the staff of this hotel and found them accommodating and friendly
  • Many guests were well pleased with the reasonable rates and good value of this hotel
  • Several guests praised the food at the restaurant on site
  • Guests liked the location, convenient to downtown, the Galloping Goose trail, shopping and entertainment venues
  • No elevator to top floor (1 flight of stairs to access)
  • Some guests complained of noise transfer from within the hotel
  • Hotel a little dated according to a few guests
The Days Inn is a good pick for guests with cars wishing to access the Victoria General Hospital, as it offers a good room at a good price about a 12-minute drive from the hospital. (Bus service is longer at 25 minutes and requires 10 minutes of walking.)

The room is a little more expensive on the average than the Econo Lodge and there is no breakfast included which brings the price up a little more. The trade-off is the added convenience of a restaurant on site serving all meals daily, but guests should note that there is a bar on site as well that provides live jazz entertainment Wednesdays through to Saturdays. This could produce a challenge to finding a parking spot and may also produce unwanted noise for some. On the bright side, guests seemed to enjoy meals at this restaurant.

All rooms are well equipped here, each having a mini-fridge and microwave, which helps guests who want to eat small meals in the privacy of their rooms. There’s even a tea kettle in each room for those who want to relax with a cup of tea at night!

Guests should be aware that there are smoking rooms at this hotel, no elevator and pets are also allowed. Wi-Fi and parking are free of charge.

Popular Victoria-Saanich hotel with kitchenettes, air conditioning & free downtown shuttle

  • Many reviewers found the location convenient for exploring the area by car
  • Many guests thought that the room rates were reasonable
  • Many guests described their rooms as clean and comfortable
  • Guests really liked the staff of this hotel and said they were so polite and helpful
  • Some guests enjoyed the breakfast and the restaurant on site
  • Some guests were disturbed by noise transfer from other guests, plumbing sounds and from car traffic on front facing rooms
  • A few guests said their rooms were showing signs of wear and tear
The Accent Inns Victoria is my third choice due to its higher room price. It offers an affordable room with several freebies including Wi-Fi, a continental breakfast and parking, about a 12-minute drive from the hospital. (Public transit involves 12 minutes of walking for a total of 20 minutes travel time.) It’s smoke free and air conditioned and all rooms include pay movies, a coffeemaker and mini-fridge which can add to your comfort.

The breakfast is a basic continental and guests seemed to enjoy it, along with the dark roast coffee. There’s also a well-liked restaurant next to the hotel that offers healthy food made from scratch for lunch and dinner (at half price after 9 pm).

There is an elevator to all floors and guests recommend staying on the third floor at the back of the hotel for a quieter room. This hotel is pet friendly but allows pets only in select rooms. Guests say that some of the rooms are showing some wear and tear and some appear to have been renovated, but many judge the hotel to be clean and well kept. The staff is generally very well liked by guests who say they are polite and helpful.

Four Points Victoria Gateway may work for guests who can afford more. It’s only a 9-minute drive to the hospital and has good highway access. It’s a smoke-free and pet-free facility and has on-site dining. Rooms are newer with standard conveniences like mini-fridges and microwaves. Parking and Wi-Fi are also included.

Guests really liked the staff who go above and beyond at this hotel and provide caring service. It may do well to request a quiet room though, as sometimes guests complain about noise from such things as a nearby ice machine, in-room AC units, guests from the on-site bar or sports teams staying at the hotel.
