I looked for overall value for price offered, considering that if someone is using the hotel as a base for the hospital, it's mostly about value, cleanliness, quietness and last but not least, location.

All the Editor's Picks are smoke-free hotels that are well reviewed online and which offer a medical rate for those guests needing to attend the hospital. (Please note that it's advisable to compare the medical rate offered by the hotel, with the regular room rates found online, as sometimes we can beat even the reduced medical rates!)

The Sunset Inn & Suites is my first choice for those needing to be accessible to the UBC Hospital. It's about a 17-minute drive and only a 3-minute walk to the bus stop if you need to use the public transit system. Most people who stay at this hotel give it excellent ratings. You could say that it's cheap and cheerful. It's one of the best priced hotels on the list, plus it has an impressive list of freebies: breakfast, parking, Wi-Fi, local calls and DVD rentals. It's a modest "home away from home" for a lot of folks who visit Vancouver, and who appreciate its spacious and clean suites with comfortable beds, and friendly staff in an excellent downtown location, close to Davie Street. Some rooms have views of Sunset Beach which does, by the way, have beautiful sunsets!

This hotel is another gem in the heart of the city and my second choice with professional and accommodating staff, reasonable prices and clean, comfortable and quiet accommodation. It's $20 more for secure underground parking here, but they provide very good free Wi-Fi. The White Spot restaurant is on site and offers good food and service at affordable prices. The bus stops right at the hotel, and it should take about 30-35 minutes to get to the hospital from here. If you're driving, it should take about 15 minutes. This hotel came highly recommended by guest reviewers for its clean updated rooms, all with laminate/wood floors and flat screen TVs.
