The Hospital for Sick Children, or SickKids as it is commonly known, is located close to these hotels and several are willing to provide discounted rates to those needing to stay nearby to the hospital.

The special discounted rates can be obtained by calling the hotel directly and providing necessary documentation or proof of your loved one's stay at the hospital. Downtown hotels usually charge extra for parking, so be sure to inquire as to the extra fees that might be associated with your stay.

(A note about hospital rates: be sure to compare the rate offered by the hotel for the days you are staying, with the available online rate, as online rates can be cheaper than the discounted rates in certain hotels on certain days but be careful about booking a rate that you are not able to cancel.)

Tips For Staying Near Sick Kids Hospital Toronto

Located just south of the University of Toronto in downtown Toronto's Discovery District, The Hospital for Sick Children, more popularly known as SickKids Hospital, is a family-centred paediatric hospital for children up to the age of 18 suffering from an illness or medical emergency.

SickKids Hospital realizes the stress that an illness can inflict and has put together a comprehensive guide to staying at the hospital, complete with do's and don'ts, and helpful tips and advice. There is even some financial advice.
The hospital offers paid underground parking, with day and evening rates available, as well as weekend and holiday rates. Parents who are frequent visitors may want to consider the 5- or 10-multi-use pass, or the long-stay passes, available as one-week, two-week and one-month passes. Please note that only long-stay passes offer same-day in-and-out privileges.

The hospital's security personnel are available to walk visitors to their vehicles for safety reasons upon request.

For full information on fares and how to purchase passes, check out the hospital's guide to parking while visiting SickKids. The website also features information on available public parking lots throughout the city.
Getting Around
Centrally located on University Avenue in Toronto's downtown core, the hospital is within walking distance of a number of transit options. St. Patrick Subway and Bus Station, as well as Dundas Streetcars, are a 3-minute walk south of the hospital, while College Streetcars and Queen's Park Station are a 5-minute walk north.

Walking distances to all listed hotels are relatively short (under 12 minutes) and are safe during the day, but as in any large city, caution is recommended at night.

Highways are all within a 15-minute drive from the hospital in ideal traffic times. The Gardiner Expressway heading East - West and the Don Valley Expressway heading North - South are both an 8-minute drive from SickKids.

SickKids Hospital is a relatively compact campus, but for easy navigation, maps and guides can be found on their website. Alternatively, a virtual tour by two previous patients can be found on the SickKids Foundation website.
Tim Hortons and Starbucks coffee shops, as well as a Jugo Juice, can be found on site. For meals, guests can choose from an extensive array of home-cooked offerings, as well as long-standing favourites, at the on-site Terrace Cafe. The menu varies from week to week, and is available to browse in advance online.

A plethora of fine-dining and fast-food restaurants can be found within a 6-minute walk in any direction.
Vendor tables are set up in the Main Atrium, and sell things ranging from packaged pajamas to glam jewellery. Proceeds go to support the SickKids Foundation for patient care and research.

Also available is a Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacy, a Specialty Food Shop specializing in foods for those with dietary restrictions, which also offers the public nutrition information and access to a Registered Dietitian, and College Opticians, which services the entire family's optical needs.
The hospital has put together a list of accommodations that may provide hotel discounts, including the Ronald McDonald House, for out-of-town guests on long-term stays.

SickKids recommends contacting your local Rotary Club, Lions Club or Easter Seals about possible fundraising options or financial aid, as well as saving any receipts related to your child's treatment, as they could be used towards tax deductions.
