The Best Western Plus City Centre Inn came out on top in my analysis, mostly based upon recent online guest reviews. It has a 76% recommendation rate on TripAdvisor with an average guest rating of 4 out of 5. It's only 10 minutes' drive to the arena and even reachable in a half an hour, with public transit. It has on-site restaurants including a Tim Hortons, a salt water pool, waterslide and hot tub which guests have enjoyed. I've read that there are generous portions at their restaurant, the rooms are clean and spacious and the staff, friendly and accommodating. The Kingsway Mall is across the street. Parking and Wi-Fi are free.

The Yellowhead Trail Highway can be reached in under a 5-minute drive, connecting to the rest of Alberta. Downtown Edmonton is a 10-minute drive from the stadium and the Edmonton International Airport (YEG) is an approximate 30-minute drive away.
 
A couple of the closest hotels mentioned below are within a 5-minute walk of Rexall Place, but many are not. However, the 
stadium is easily accessible by public transit from all hotels. The Coliseum LRT and bus station is a 4-minute walk from the stadium and cash fare is $3.20 per ride, or a day pass can be purchased for one adult and up to four children for $9. Route planning and maps can be found on the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) website.

Edmonton, as in most major cities, is safe during the day. At nightfall, being cautious when walking anywhere in the city is recommended. There are many taxi companies serving the city area and after any sporting event or concert, taxi's can be found surrounding the Northlands Complex.
