Tips For Staying Near Ottawa Airport

Location
Popular tourist attractions in downtown Ottawa, such as Parliament Hill, the Byward Market and the Rideau Canal, are roughly 15 to 20 km north of the airport and its surrounding area. If walking distance to these tourist destinations is desired then find a hotel in downtown Ottawa instead.

MacDonald-Cartier International Airport is located at the far south end of Ottawa, near the residential neighbourhoods of Revelstoke and Victory Hill. There are not many attractions within walking distance, so access to a vehicle while in this area is recommended if you are looking to explore.

Getting Around: Driving
There are a few transportation options to MacDonald-Cartier Airport. OC Transpo offers regular bus transportation from various points throughout the city to the airport. Taxi service is also readily available. According to an airport authority, average cab fare is around $30 to the airport from the downtown Ottawa area.

Travellers with access to a vehicle have a number of dining and shopping options within a 5-minute drive away from the airport, in the Bank Street and Hunt Club area. However, there is not much within walking distance in the area directly surrounding the airport.

The signage around the airport is well marked, and for those travelling in a vehicle, relatively easy to manoeuvre around. This may come as a relief to those that have driven in and out of airports in some bigger cities, which can be daunting to navigate due to complicated signage and multiple terminals.
