The Admiral Inn is a good option for those who don't like to drop a lot of cash for a room. It has one of the lowest room rates in the line-up and very good ratings with most guests recommending the hotel. Parking, Wi-Fi and a continental breakfast are included which helps to bring the rate down even more.

It has easy access to main arteries and even Highway 403 making travelling with a car convenient. It's 5 minutes' driving time to First Ontario Centre from this hotel. If it's nice out, you could even walk to the arena from here in 20 minutes and save on parking downtown.

Their clean and comfortable rooms are well-equipped with mini-fridges and microwaves which is handy for keeping your beer cold and for re-heating last night's leftovers.

There's a well-liked on-site restaurant and many guests said they enjoyed their meals, room service and the free breakfast at the hotel. And maybe best of all, the staff are friendly and helpful according to guests.

I recommend the highly rated Staybridge Suites for guests wishing to access First Ontario Place. It is only a 6-minute walk from the arena and has all the comforts of home, offering modern and  spacious rooms with full kitchens at very reasonable prices. It's a newer hotel (opened around August 2012) and guests enjoy the excellent value provided by this hotel.

The highlights are strong free Wi-Fi, delicious free hot breakfast buffets each morning, very friendly staff, a convenience store on site, an outside terrace with fireplace for relaxation, and free socials Tuesdays to Thursdays. There's also an indoor pool for recreation and enjoyment and a fitness room to help guests stay fit.

Underground parking is available for $8, and outdoor parking option as well for $5. It's close to a variety of restaurants mostly along King Street West or Hess with multiple choices within a 3-minute walk. For shoppers, the Jackson Square can be reached on foot in 6 minutes.

Tips For Staying Near Copps Coliseum

First Ontario Centre (formerly known as Copps Coliseum) is a sports and entertainment arena located at Bay Street and York Blvd. in downtown Hamilton.

First Ontario Centre is nicknamed 'The Dog Pound' because it's home to the Hamilton Bulldogs an American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens.

With a capacity of 19,000, First Ontario Centre has hosted the Canada Cup ice hockey tournament, World Junior Hockey Championships and the Memorial Cup.

The Hamilton arena is also available for musical tours, ice shows, monster jam tours, corporate events, trade shows and rink rentals.

Getting Around
The First Ontario Centre is surrounded by three major highways, the Queen Elizabeth Expressway (15-minute drive), the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway (12-minute drive) and the 403 series highway (5-minute drive).

The John C. Munro International Airport (YHM) is approximately a 20-minute drive away, while the hub airport, Toronto's Pearson International (YYZ) is an approximate 40-minute drive.

Public transit as well as taxi services are available throughout the city and to all of the below-mentioned hotels. Single-ride fares for adults are $2.55 and an unlimited-ride day pass can be purchased for $9 that is valid for one or two adults or one adult and up to five youths (below the age of 19).
