With highly-rated airport hotels in abundance, Calgary is not only ready to greet you, it's ready to meet your needs. Most of Calgary's airport hotels are located in the same area of town and pose about a 15 to 20 minute drive to the airport. In this day and age, airport hotels are the epitome of convenience offered to the busy (and sometimes weary) traveller, with many hotels offering free shuttle service to the airport, early morning buffet breakfast and even free parking while you travel away from the hotel onto your next stop.

Best Western Port O'Call got my attention by having a decent driving time to the airport at 10 to 15 minutes (depending on traffic). Also highly rated at 8.8/10 and ranked the 14th best hotel property (out of 77) in Calgary, it seems to shine a little more above the rest. It has a comparable room rate to the Residence Inn because although the room price is lower, it doesn't offer free breakfast and free extended parking. Its freebies include: airport shuttle, daily parking while you're there and Wi-Fi. Waterslide and splash pads offer some fun time for families.

Tips For Staying Near Calgary Airport

Location
The Calgary International Airport (YYC) is 22 minutes northeast of downtown Calgary by car. Depending on traffic, the ride can take up to 40 minutes.

As of spring 2013, there seems to be considerable road construction going on around the airport, specifically on Airport Trail, Barlow Trail and 100th Avenue, which makes accessing the airport a little more time consuming, so give yourself ample time to get to and from the airport. The official Calgary Airport website provides road construction updates for travellers, so check before you leave to avoid any unplanned detours.

Parking
For a quick drop-off or pick-up, the first 30 minutes of parking are free (in the Short Term parking lot and Ground Level of P1 and P2). Each additional half hour is $6. Daily rates range from $8.95 to $35, while weekly rates range from $39.95 to $99. The maximum number of days to park is 60.

Access to Long Term parking is via the "Through Road" at the entrance to Parkade 1. Located north of Airport Road, is the Economy Lot (located behind the Taxi Waiting Area). With just a short walk away from the terminal building and complimentary luggage carts, the Economy Lot is a great option for long-term parking

Peak periods for parking are Wednesday, Thursday and long weekends, so allow additional time if you're required to be there at those times.
