Tips For Staying In Etobicoke

What Does Etobicoke Offer?
Now part of the Greater Toronto Area, Etobicoke is bordered by the Humber River and Lake Ontario. Etobicoke provides a scenic backdrop for hotel dwellers travelling by air, highway and public transit.

Etobicoke hotels are also often cheaper than hotels in Toronto's downtown core. For visitors to Toronto on a budget, who are willing to take public transit into downtown, which might be a bit time consuming, you can save a considerable amount on both the room rates and parking fees.

Trains, Planes and Automobiles
Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is well situated near many Etobicoke hotels. When searching for an airport hotel, I typically look for something as close to the airport as possible, which also offers a free airport shuttle and the convenience of an on-site restaurant. Holiday Inn Toronto Airport and Westin Bristol Place are the closest hotels to YYZ (about a 2- or 3-minute drive away) and both offer a free 24-hour airport shuttle and in-house dining. Car travellers will find the nearest Highway 427 on-ramp about a 3-minute drive from all Etobicoke airport hotels.

For those travelling without a vehicle (or who wish to save on parking costs), Etobicoke offers access to public transit with a few Etobicoke hotels. The Stay Inn Airport South (one of our Editor's Picks) is a 10-minute bus ride from the Kipling subway station, so guests can reach downtown Toronto in just under an hour. Guests can reach the airport in 30 minutes by bus from the Kipling Station as well.

Business and Leisure
Etobicoke hotels are also a popular destination for business travellers. We all know that when we're travelling for business, we want the comforts of our own home close by, not to mention those all-important recreational facilities to help us de-stress. Two Etobicoke hotels that are not only close to the airport but have ample conference space, a 24-hour fitness centre, an indoor pool and at least one on-site restaurant are: Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel and Conference Centre (26,000 square feet of meeting space, plus one of our Editor's Picks) and Holiday Inn Toronto Airport (over 20,000 square feet of meeting space).

Places of Interest
Of the former boroughs and cities that now comprise the city of Toronto, Etobicoke has the lowest population density. So what does that mean? It means Etobicoke has lots of green space and parks for visitors to enjoy! James Garden Park (a popular wedding-photo location on the Humber River) is within a 20-minute drive of all hotels, while Centennial Park (which hosts the delicious Rib Fest on Canada Day long weekend) is within a 15-minute drive of all Etobicoke hotels.

To entertain the kids (or to help you remember your inner child), Wild Water Kingdom is located in Etobicoke's north end and offers several hotel choices close to the park if you're interested in staying nearby. With activities ranging from a lazy river to a 7-storey vertically dropping daredevil slide, as well as zip-lining, mini-putt and rock climbing, there's something for every traveller, from the lounger to the thrill seeker!
