Aloft Montreal Airport is my first choice for good value in Dorval. Guests really liked its modern design and quiet, loft-style rooms with oversized windows and black-out blinds. Tips For Staying In Dorval

This suburb is located west of Montreal, and about a 20-minute drive from downtown Montreal. It's home to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and the VIA Rail Dorval Train Station. While the airport takes up about 60% of Dorval's landmass, there is a small residential community that borders the Saint Lawrence River.

Airport Hotels: Convenience and Value
Within close proximity of the airport, many hotels in Dorval cater to air travellers and offer free 24-hour shuttle service. Shuttle operations differ from hotel to hotel, so I advise checking with the hotel directly to see if the shuttle runs on a set schedule, operates on demand, or requires pre-booking.

Most of the hotels in this area are chain hotels and are competitively priced. These hotels are generally less expensive than downtown Montreal hotels, and many hotels in this area also offer free Wi-Fi, free parking and free breakfast.

Both of our Editor's Picks for Dorval are airport hotels that offer free 24-hour airport shuttle service and free Wi-Fi. Aloft Montreal Airport will appeal to guests who prefer more modern accommodations and ample on-site amenities. The rooms at this hotel are equipped with large flat screen TVs, oversized walk-in showers and MP3 players, while recreational facilities include a pool, an outdoor terrace and a lounge with a pool table.

Our editor's other pick, Fairfield Inn and Suites Montreal Airport, is less luxurious than the Aloft property, but is still a solid choice that offers an indoor pool and fitness centre.

Both of these hotels charge an additional fee for parking: $10 per night at Aloft and $12 per night at Fairfield Inn and Suites. However, Aloft offers complimentary extended parking of up to 14 days, if you've booked at least one night. Fairfield Inn and Suites offers a similar deal with purchase of a park-and-fly package.

Getting Around Dorval
As mentioned above, there is little available within walking distance of the hotels. If you’re looking to explore the area, a car is highly recommended. If arriving in Montreal by train, the VIA Rail Dorval Station offers free shuttle service to the Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL).

Bus and train service is also available from the Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to downtown Montreal via the AMT. The cost to travel by train is $4.50, while the bus fee is $3. Travellers can also rent a car from one of the many kiosks located at the airport.

Dining in Dorval
The area around the airport, where most hotels are located, is mostly industrial and offers few dining or shopping venues. Many hotels are not within walking distance of restaurants or shops. Depending on your travel plans, you may want to look for a hotel that offers on-site dining.

Fairfield Inn and Suites Montreal Airport is one of the few airport hotels that offers on-site dining. This hotel provides a free breakfast in the morning and has an on-site restaurant that serves dinner each evening. The Aloft Montreal Airport offers a 24-hour snack bar and a lounge area that serves snacks and drinks.

Food delivery is also an option when staying at a Dorval hotel, and there are multiple restaurant options. Pizza Dorval 2 for 1 is highly rated by UrbanSpoon.com, while La Porte Orientale delivers Chinese food.

Dominated by the airport, the people and businesses of Dorval are pros at accommodating travellers and tourists. With good food and value-focused accommodations that never skimp on comfort, you're sure to enjoy your stay, however long it may be, in the Dorval area.
